“Semper Una Anima”
Acrylic on Canvas 24x24
Semper Una Anima is a visual incantation, a meditation on the sacred tether that unites two beings beyond the confines of time and space. Inspired by the ancient work of Plato’s Symposium, this piece reaches toward the ineffable realm where connection precedes the tangible. In that mythic origin, humans were once whole, conjoined creatures bearing four arms, four legs, and two faces, cleaved apart by the gods and cast into the world with only memory and yearning as compass.
Within this work, a red string unfurls like breath made visible, threading through the flower of life, a primordial geometry from which all things emerge and return. It signifies not just the pull between two entities, but the sacred thread that binds spirit to spirit, essence to essence. This bond transcends the physical, a quiet chord vibrating through the soul’s interior landscape, reminding us that wholeness is not bestowed by another but cultivated within.
The string tangles upon itself, forming moments of resistance and friction that challenges and transforms. Yet it does not sever, it holds. In its crimson arc is the mortal evidence of an immortal truth, that some connections are written in the marrow of existence, unspoken yet undeniable. The figures held within this frame do not seek completion in one another. Instead, they stand as their sovereign selves, mirrored yet distinct, each on their journey toward a deeper knowing of their own soul. The symmetry in the composition reflects this balance, the dance of duality, the harmony that emerges when two paths intertwine without eclipsing one another. Their connection does not consume, it illuminates.
Tulips bloom at the sites of struggle, unfurling from the soil of shared growth. They are symbols of transformation, born not in ease, but in the divine tension of becoming. Around them, the frame weaves a living symbol, encapsulating the interconnectedness of all things, a visual echo of the unbroken web that binds each spirit to another, each life a thread in the infinite loom. This is a portrait of lingering resonance, a psychic tether that hums in silence. Even in absence, it speaks. Even in stillness, it stirs.
Rendered in a style that fuses folk tradition with esoteric symbols, alchemical motifs, and the spirit of lowbrow illustration, Semper Una Anima becomes both artifact and oracle. It is not a story of longing but of recognition. A soul seeing itself in the mirror of another’s becoming. A sacred convergence. A bond that is not made, but remembered.

“Voice of a Deity”
Acrylic on Canvas 36 x 24 Artwork for Super Duper Gallery
In “Voice of a Deity”, Mikes crafts an image of ‘seeing’. The severe exhaustion reflected in the swelling pair of eyes contrive a familiar feeling of extensive looking to the material world. Above it, a third eye rests quiet with much less tension, perhaps signifying attributes akin to intuition, foresight, and wisdom– all of which, not as observable as objects of the everyday. The contrast between these two elements points to the artist’s conceived depravity in the divine dimension we all share, but often abandon. The graphic drooling of the gums surrounding it continues a narrative of intense desire that cannot be quelled unless tamed by the awakening consciousness of the inherent and universal transcendence of humanity. Reeling back to the artist’s societal roots, and personal values, Mikes reminds us to reclaim a connection to the spiritual. To equal consumption with contemplation. To carve a space for the sacred to dwell as interludes in the frenzies of the everyday.
