Semper Una Anima is a visual incantation, a meditation on the sacred tether that unites two beings beyond the confines of time and space. Inspired by the ancient work of Plato’s Symposium, this piece reaches toward the ineffable realm where connection precedes the tangible. In that mythic origin, humans were once whole, conjoined creatures bearing four arms, four legs, and two faces, cleaved apart by the gods and cast into the world with only memory and yearning as compass.
Within this work, a red string unfurls like breath made visible, threading through the flower of life, a primordial geometry from which all things emerge and return. In “Voice of a Deity”, Mikes crafts an image of ‘seeing’. The severe exhaustion reflected in the swelling pair of eyes contrive a familiar feeling of extensive looking to the material world.
